Marriages are important. Paul’s teaching is straightforward – “wives be subject to your husbands, husbands love your wives.” But Paul is talking about a deep and “disinterested” love – a love that seeks the best for the other person, without thinking of self at all. Abuse simply isn’t compatible with this sort of love. And ultimately, Paul wants every Christian to “be subject to one another, out of reverence for Christ.”

Listen to the sermon preached by the Revd Bryce Amner on Sunday 19 August 2018.

The scripture readings are 2 Samuel 18:5-33 and Ephesians 4:17–5:33.
